Den Sovende [Karether rulled i Sandet] - Poem by Emil Aarestrup

Karether rulled i Sandet
Foran det sneehvide Huus,
Som speilte sig omvendt i Vandet
Med Trappernes Blomsterkruus.

Nysgjerrig stod jeg paa Flisen,
Hvor Skyggen af Skyerne løb,
Hvor spraglet, under Markisen,
Paa Ruden en Kaalorm krøb.

Jeg fulgte Ormens Exempel,
Jeg gjennem Ruderne saae
Ind i det duftende Tempel,
Som Himmelhvælvingen blaa.

Der saae jeg dig selv, indsovet -
Kun sagte Aande du drog -
Og om det drømmende Hoved
Dine egne Arme du slog.

Der saae jeg dig selv, indsovet
Paa Sophahyndernes Pragt -
Høit over det drømmende Hoved
De blændende Arme lagt.
