Despite The Odds. Poem by Carl R Nicolas

Despite The Odds.

Some loves arrive quietly,
and some arrive like destiny,
unexpected, undeniable...

You are held so dear in my heart
that words barely carry the weight of it...

Because in your presence
I feel something rare,
a deep humility,
a quiet gratitude,
an honor
simply to stand beside you...

Even the path you walk upon
feels sacred to me...Yet desperate to follow...

The love I feel
has taught me reverence,
the kind that recognizes
the miracle of another soul...

And yes…
life is complicated...I know the tragedy of our timing...

Sometimes love arrives
after the walls of existence
have already been built... I know I met you after I've already constructed a fortress... After choices have been made,
after roads have been settled...

But the heart does not always live
according to convenience...it lives according to truth...and unfortunately, the circumstances of the way I feel demand that I break it all down...

If you give me time,
I will lighten the load of my life
to walk toward you...

It will not be easy.
Change rarely is... A chaotic,
painful unmaking...

Some bridges must be crossed carefully,
some storms must be faced honestly...

But when a man knows what his heart has found,
he does not pretend otherwise...

So despite the odds,
despite the complexity of the moment,
I intend to move forward with the plan...

Meeting you now,
was not an accident of time...It is a awakening...
