Didn't Used To Poem by Jan Jarnigan

Didn't Used To

We didn't used to need to buy
Bottled water and
Wear sunglasses all day driving.
We didn't wonder why frogs are deformed
Or why heavy sunscreen is a must.
We didn't used to think about bacteria
In our food and new bugs popping up,
Immune to vaccines.
Miles of road and highway did not
Gobble up our trees and scenery.
We didn't hear of so many floods,
Earthquakes, volcanoes,
Oil spills, and blood spills.
Seldom were there one-parent families,
Neither did we used to see truth
So rampantly, openly mocked,
Nor often encounter its clever counterfeit.
Values weren't so cast to the wind~~~
But that was then.
