Breath held in fearful anticipation
they watch the great metal avian
roar skywards,
mastering the air.
The surge of power
is arousing -
almost erotic.-
there is something primeval about this urge -
deeper than the mind can fathom -
man and machine seeking dominance over gravity.
Ancient hearts beat faster and stronger
deaf to the pleas of the 21st century mind -
all that pollution -
energy gratuitously expended
to satisfy our animal instincts.
In that thrilling moment
such novel niceties are forgotten.
But Gaia sheds another tear
as her reckless child
lands his latest blow.
