Distances Poem by Charles Hanson Towne

Distances

I had a friend who went away
Over the distant sea,
But hill and tide can never hide
His gentle face from me.

I had a friend--he broke my heart,
Yet every shining day
We meet, but nevermore clasp hands...
How far he is away!
