Do You Believe? Poem by Don Subba

Do You Believe?

Do you believe other's views?
Do you believe what's on the news?
Do you believe what you were taught in school?
Do you believe the words of a fool?

Do you believe in a guaranty?
Do you believe what you can see?
Do you believe what you have read?
Do you believe what your father said?

Hands on your heart
Eyes on the line
What you call truth
Gets changed in time

Every voice says
"It's always been"
But who gets hurt
When you give in?

Do you believe?
Do you believe?
What do you keep?
What do you believe?

Do you believe?
Do you believe?
Or do you just repeat?
What you believe

Do you believe your government?
Do you believe in its good intent?
Do you believe what you feel?
Do you believe that it is real?

Do you believe what you have heard?
Do you believe what they say is God's word?
If it fits your fear
If it sounds so clear
It can still be a chain
When it pulls you near

Hands on your heart
Eyes on the line
What you call truth
Gets changed in time

Every voice says
"It's always been"
But who gets hurt
When you give in?

Do you believe?
Do you believe?
What do you keep?
What do you believe?

Do you believe?
Do you believe?
Or do you just repeat?
What you believe

Whatever it is
That you do believe
Do others, or your mind
You deceive?

If it's borrowed whole
If it never bends
Will you still call it yours
When it breaks at the end?

Do you believe?
Do you believe?
What do you keep?
What do you believe?

Do you believe?
Do you believe?
Or do you just repeat?
What you believe
