Doll Poem by LucyAnne Wanjiku

Doll

I've stared at it a thousand times
It's costly, worth millions of dimes
Each time I see it, I can only mime
My heart breaks for it is not mine

Mama said she'd get me the doll
I still see it at the mall
The day it comes I'll have a ball
I can't believe it will ever be mine

I'm putting away all other toys
Trying my best to act coy
Preparing for that precious joy
I can almost see my new found friend

Sometimes I lack the time to play
But I'm still glad you came my way
Precious doll, you're here to stay
Why have I lost my first love?

All my toys are back in place
In their sight you have lost face
But to me it's not the case
I'm still learning how to love

Tried to give you back again
But as usual it's in vain
Without you there's too much pain
You still top my loved one's list
