Domestic Life Poem by Adeeb Al-Fateh

Domestic Life

Intact—utterly intact—remained the entire meditation,
A vibrant heart, fully enveloped-
With the swimming of waves in a procession of roses.

All shame took flight in a surge of bizarre emotion
Velvety claws stain upon the moon's belly

An anniversary observed amidst the rain's swim—
A lingering draft of clouded desires
Within the inner sanctum of barren light

Thus, the destitute times pass
To the greetings of lotus thorns—
The classic dilemma of life returns no more

A Karbala is unfolded on the lame field of domestic life
Where Yazid's soldiers strike at the heart of duality
