If misfortune should happen to clutch my side
If the moment should come when I must die
If the tears of sorrow have filled your eyes
Be strong my children please don’t cry
If I depart this world before you grow old
If my death thus denies you your daddy to hold
If you should need my warmth through winter’s cold
Remember my child don’t lose control
If I should leave you before comprehending my name
Or before understanding my passions in frame
Should they slander my character I ask your refrain
Forgive them my loves, to all do the same
Compose yourselves with dignity
Reinforced by devotion and unity
Grieve with grace and integrity
Outshining the hypocrites unethical scrutiny
If the tides of misfortune should grasp my side
If the time has come for me to die
If the tears of sorrow should cloud your eyes
Be strong my children and please don’t cry
