You awoke tonight
from a terrible dream
where monsters had
held you at bay.
Then Mommy came
and holding you tight
she drove all
those monsters away.
I only hope
that years from now
when trouble is all
that's in sight,
you'll turn to me
again to see
if Mommy can make things
go right.
I also hope
that I deserve
the faith that you
have in me now:
to chase the fear
and bring the peace
of sleep
to your tiny brow.
