Dreaming On A Sunday Afternoon Poem by Jammie Plummer

Dreaming On A Sunday Afternoon

I sit on top of the wood, my eyes closed
And dream of what the world could be
Below me the world goes on,
All of its destruction and injustice

Wars are happening and bombs are being dropped,
Children soldiers taken from homes.
People starving on the street, as prices soar,
Home stand empty that no one can afford.

Hate still happens, people still denied rights
Genocide, as the world looks away
No one wants to get involved unless there is personal gain
Despair and greed seems to fill this world

Then something happens that inspires
Goodness that lies in the heart of humanity shines,
Change peaks over the horizon of destruction
What the world could be is closer then it seems

Marches to support change
Random acts of kindness
Rallies, protest and fundraisers,
All to help those in need.

The dream world can happen
People able to stand next to each other
No hate, no war, only a helping hand
We are human, that is all we see.
