Drifting Poem by Karen Thornburg

Drifting

Drifting along
Feeling no pain.
The warmth of the lake
Am I going insane?

The fires they burn
Along the shore in my mind.
The voices call out my name
Is this a sick game?

The waves push me along
All warm and so safe
My mind all a muddle and never to clear
Forcing me into darkness… To just disappear.

I hear a knock knocking
Is it inside my head?
I open my eyes blood on the floor
Razor in my hand lying next to the bed.

I close my eyes
Feel pain no more
Just let me die
Before you open the door.
