Dry Leaves Poem by Steve Otieno

Dry Leaves

the trouble with being surrounded by beauty
whether of the animate or inanimate kind,
is in forgetting how ugly the world is
and can be,

not that the world was made ugly,
but because
beautiful people have gone through
so much ugliness at the hands of themselves,

much that they have reclined themselves
to become it.
