Earth Born Poem by Custous Angelus

Earth Born

People claim that we are meant to fly
To discover the skies
And feel the wonders hidden
Sky is where the dream is
Sky is where you are free
They pity me for I cannot fly
Nor have I the desire for them
I am of the earth born
When they flee from coming storm
I will face the storm, my feet rooted to the earth
While they leisurely travel
I will be where I am, my feet rooted to the earth
When they dream of going higher
I will dream of going lower
It is true that I wasn’t born to fly
But do not pity me for I am stronger
Do not look at me with those condescending eyes
For I have stood and fought many battles which you’ve fled
Do not take me as a fool for not knowing the wonders of the sky
For I have sweated and earned myself wonders of my own
True I cannot fly
Neither my body nor my mind fit for such action
So instead I have rooted my self
Rooted myself firmly to the earth
To prove that I am stronger than they are
Got no talents like does sky born
Or smart enough to device myself a machine to fly
So I chose to root myself to earth
I am an earth born
Neither smart nor ambitious
But stronger than any of you
So when the years have passed
And the tolls have been paid
I will stand my chest proud
Standing like a great oak
