Eavesdropping At The Chemo Center Poem by Kyle Schlicher

today i overheard
a patient
at
the chemo center
while
she was talking
to
a relative.

she was saying
how
she is used
to
the pain.

this woman is tall
and
very thin.

her arm shakes uncontrollably.

her voice is strained, an octave
too high.

it sounds as if
it is a great effort
for her
just
to speak.

she is used to the pain
and
the discomfort.

this is one tough, courageous woman.
