Eggshells Poem by Caroline Castro

Eggshells

Walking on eggshells
Is a phrase used to describe someone who has to carefully make perfect decisions for another.
Life gets consumed with the intense urge to ensure that every word that comes out, every action that is made is 'correct' in that person's life.
Then one thinks…well what about me?
Why does my heart race at the thought of their reaction?
Why do I second-guess my every decision no matter how big or small it is?
Have I lost myself?
Am I that weak?
Well… what is an eggshell?
It has a hard outer layer that one can assume is strong,
Yet it cracks and breaks extremely easy.
The outer strength is a disguise for the emptiness and weakness inside.
It cannot even handle being placed amongst other groceries because of its sensitivity.
But you… you are not an eggshell.
You can crack it so easily it becomes a waste…garbage even.
