Empty Paper Sack Poem by Shaina Lloyd

Empty Paper Sack

A little girl 'bout age twelve
walking down the street
watching people go by
always saying hello
to the ones that greet
But then notices a boy 'bout her age
sitting on the ground
with ragged clothes and bruises
not even making a sound
The little girl went over to the boy
and asked him why he wasnt at home
the little boy replied,
' I have one with my dad but I want to be alone.
My mom died when she had me
then gave me to my dad,
who smokes, and drinks all the time,
and hits me when he's mad.
So I sit here alone
waiting for my dad to came back
to bring me some food
in a paper sack.'
The little girl was astonished
about what the boy had said
and ran to her mother
to tell her about the boy
and the bruises on his head.
When the girls mother had found out
She went to the boy straight away
to get him medical help
and someone to care for him everyday
But when the little girl showed her mother
where the boy had sat
they didn't see a little boy
but an empty paper sack
