Empty Symphony Poem by Yiling Ding

Empty Symphony

What am I waiting for?
in this dark house?
The lights are all off
and the ticktack of
my juice-drenched keyboard
is my background music.
Outside I can see the
unchanged landscape of
lit-up buildings,
and the sometimes rain
and occasional thunder
are ornaments to my
Empty Symphony.
And somehow
I bury myself into
my flashing screen, playing
meaningless games - It's
not like there isn't
any work to be done,
but it's too lonely in here
to work. Even
turning up the speakers
till they blast my ears
deaf with loud music
(or piano tunes)
cannot draw me away
from the Empty Symphony,
which despite all,
does not diversify.

The orchestra is still missing
a human chorus.
