End Game Poem by Mary Champion

End Game

Fire, flood and famine -
is this how it's set to end?
Death by our own hands -
a man-made Armageddon -
Nemesis victorious.

Not God, as we feared, -
his implacable judgement
on our evil deeds.
But, harsher than any god,
the wrath of Mother Nature.

There are no prayers,
no meaningless rituals
that will appease her.
Her implacable justice
will admit no compromise.

Here, reality bites -
Humanity has limits
that we cannot cross.
We must play by her rules -
or accept we die by them.
