Enigmas
In life, we are usually rewarded for doing the right thing; but on the other hand, we are sometimes punished for doing what's wrong
However, I firmly believe that we are missing the boat by not striving to live in the middle
What's wrong with gray? It's not black or white, and gray aptly describes about half of us
And as far as success goes, we're either halfway up, or halfway down; but the road in-between seems to hold more of us
For if you're like me, neither really good nor bad then you deserve a little consideration; for it's the folks like us who are neither eminent nor infamous but are of one kind
So let's start demanding that mediocrity becomes our party's platform, and especially since we already lead the world in greatness; and besides, who needs anymore of that?
And even though we have heard the great speeches and platitudes about why we need to act now, we'll go to the poles and continue to choose our candidates for their sex appeal, and not for their greatness
It seems to me, though, that the reason they appeal to us in the first place is that we'd love to be just like them
But if the masses ever decided to vote for true reform, that is, if we ever come to our senses, then perhaps we'll forget about which states are red or blue, and instead, we will elect our candidates for their intelligence and not the way we normally do
For now, however, we'll just stay on the fence, and we'll make no intelligent choices; and please forgive us for not making ourselves heard, but if we ever do, then the halls of Congress will get emptied
In the meantime, though, just tell us which states are red or blue and we won't vote for anybody new
Just bring us the news, whether it's good or bad, but please don't ask us to make a decision; and please don't offer us an intelligent candidate for we would much rather vote for handsome
It's entirely alright, though, if they're rich and we're not, we'll just pray that they'll be benevolent
But year after year, they all tell us the same, and we tend to believe that they're sincere
What's more likely, though, is that we don't really want to change, or to even stand up for ourselves; and so therefore, we'll just let them deliver the goods
Unfortunately, however, it's beginning to look as if the only hope for the good old gray is to vote in the same old way
And so one more time, let's put the rich on top and the poor on the bottom and the good old gray in the middle
For like they say, you get what you see; and if that's true, then the good old gray might just end up the winner
