ENTANGLED Poem by Cecilie Løveid

ENTANGLED

I sat on your lap.
You were not my father.
I was not your daughter.
You were not my boyfriend.

I was not his girlfriend.
He was not the father of my child.
He was not my son.
Still I sat on his lap and drank beer.
Sat as if he were the Virgin Mary
and I were Baby Jesus.

We smoked a cigarette each.
Everything I say now is nonsense.
Everything I say now is wrong.

You were my father!
I was your child!
You were my son.
You were my boyfriend.
I was your girlfriend. I cannot lie.
I can only lie to myself.
Now you can forget me.
