Ephemeries Poem by A. David Abraham

Ephemeries

Time and time and time again
Time passes by

Till there is no end
Nowhere to stop
Nowhere to stay
Nowhere to go

Only you and I remain
And it hurts

I remember
How much it hurts
It will all be better
In the end
This is how
I keep reminding myself

But I want it to be over now

Oh the repose and sweet ecstasy found in
Poesy

Only where, only there can we go to find our peace

Our light breezes die and fawn over ourselves

Breaks in the armor
Where we see the light

This is how I see ourselves
This is how I see you

Longing for you
Knowing there is no light
Where we are going

Longing to be with you
Knowing it will never be

It can never be

There is a dream
That lies ahead

We look askance at it

Because it seems so far…and yet so near

This is what we want we say
Knowing all the while, we are wrong

Again- nowhere to go
Fallacies gone and undone in our wasteland

Your face (continually)popping up
Brimming over in my fantasies
In my dreams of you

Again- it hurts

So this is the end of it all
We've come to that yet again have we?

We'll hold onto hope
That's all we have

We'll cling to dreams
That's all that abides with us

We'll make the ephemeries, the fantasies that call us by name

Where have you gone?
It was only you I ever wanted
