Eros, Please Poem by Alejandro Torres

Eros, Please

Eros, please
Save the shards
Of my broken and foolish heart
I know her words are false
I know her sentiment is untrue
As the air in my lungs
My mind tells me so
But my heart
Stabs at my chest
So it wont listen to my words
Pierce it with one of your arrows of lead
And make me indifferent
One more strike of gold
And surely I’ll die
Miserable and old
Waiting at the edge of the sea
Waiting for her to come back to me
While in truth
We both know she sits behind her walls
Safely away from a witches gaze
Or whatever it is she calls me
Eros, please
While I chat with Dionysus
Over a cup of courage
Stake this traitor
That will not listen to reason
She doesn’t care if the wound is fatal
And if I am happy with drink
Neither would I
Aphrodite, please
Send your son quick
To tame this beast
That beats in my chest
Between two swells of breasts
Make his weapon of choice
Sharper than her image
And as painless as her name
Rolling off of tear stained lips
Aphrodite, please
Ask your Father
To send a fire of white
While I sleep
Or your sister Artemis
To spare me a tree
Something simple and quick
Before the end of her days
Aphrodite, please
Send your son quick
Send him when the moon is high
Send Eros, please
