Everyday Poem by Tracy Craighead

Everyday

THE EVERYDAY

We have arrived, we are here
it's a no place… Nowhere,
but still, a place to fear.
It's where we start every day…
at the beginning, when we awake
and we take what is given
and cry for a bit
and then we move on,
to the challenges, we must face.
We have no room to dodge
the incoming flames,
but following the fire and the pain
is subtle soft music playing
with its mellow refrain,
followed by laughter
heard on a distant plane.

It's okay to smile,
to lighten the mood
to revel in the now,
not knowing the plan.
And so,
I've come to a crossroads
to a line in the sand.
Choosing happiness above the blues
and resting with my smile
securely on you.
