It doesn't always wear an evil face,
Sometimes it hides behind love and grace.
It laughs with you, it holds you near,
Then whispers things you never should hear.
It watches your joy with a jealous eye,
Smiles on your face, but wishes you'd cry.
Your little success becomes something to hate,
Your happiness somehow becomes their weight.
Years of friendship, memories deep,
Secrets you trusted them enough to keep.
But envy grows where resentment starts,
And slowly it poisons once-loving hearts.
They know your weakness, they know your fears,
They know every wound from all those years.
So when they hurt you, they know where to aim,
Then hide their cruelty behind a joke or a name.
Even lovers can turn this way,
Holding you close, then hurting you the next day.
They say "I love you, " but actions reveal
A heart that competes instead of knowing how to feel.
Some don't want what you have—they want you to lose,
Because your happiness gives them something to prove.
They can't celebrate you, they can't let you shine,
Because your light reminds them of what they don't find.
And that's the saddest part of it all—
Sometimes the deepest wounds come from those we call
Friend… family… lover… someone we knew,
Someone who once said, "I'll always stand by you."
But I won't carry their darkness inside,
I won't let their envy become my pride.
Let their bitter words fall where they may—
I won't become cruel just because they betray.
Because an evil heart can destroy what is true,
But I won't let an evil heart turn me into you.
Some hearts don't break because they lost love…
They break because they couldn't stand to see someone else have it.
