Fade To Black Poem by David Musoke

Fade To Black

Why do your memories still haunt my waking dreams?
If I sleep in darkness will I still dream of the light?
Daily my heart is rent by memories of the future that is not
Lurking in the shadows of your happiness I hide behind the mask that you have given me
Is this a mask of friendship or will it fade all my memories to black

I awaken from my dreams with little remembrance of your fragrance
My heart still plays the rhythm of unending joy at the thought of you
In the shadows I shall remain and eventually fade away consumed by the light of another
I gladly wear the mask that I love to hate
I smile as my memories fade to black...
