Failed Foray Poem by Neil Crawford

Failed Foray

Disheartened at the sight
of her wedding ring,
my intention to chat
is forestalled.

I beat a retreat
to the crossword
that was earmarked
as an ice breaker.

Building about myself
bars of cool silence,
my unsought aura
of gruffness grows.
