Failed Independence Poem by Meg H...

Failed Independence

I tried to fight my own battle
A pitiful attempt at being strong
Independence comes with the territory
But it doesn’t stay for very long
The courageous nature weakens
When the confidence disappears
The air feels heavy
With the blood-shedding tears
Handprints and bruises
Internal scars
Nightmare screams
And blackened stars
I fall to the carelessness
I’ve thrown myself in
I regret the decisions
I forget the sins
Danger follows me
Death comes to my door
I lost it all—everything
When you threw me to the floor.
