Fair And Ugly Poem by MAHBUBA SHAMA

Fair And Ugly

My whole body is dark
Skin looks like kali goddess
She is respected but me rejected
Who will marry me?
Heavy dowry has to be given
Men adores fairness
My children will be dark too
So I am always blamed for it
Dark eyes, black hair are precious
So am I
Why all punish me for my skin
As if black skin is a crime
My heart bleeds as all dislike me
All suggest using whitening creams
Some colours I should avoid must
To look less dark
Men touched me but not to marry
Is it too harmful to be dark?
I now question our society.
