First Love - Annette Ashley Joseph Poem by _the_zen_of_writing_ Annette Ashley Joseph

First Love - Annette Ashley Joseph

I may be forgetful;
But I may not forget
How you made me feel.
I may forget your favourite colour,
But I would never forget the light
You brought into my life.
I may forget your favourite flower,
But I would never forget your presence
That I felt in my life.

I may forget your likes and dislikes,
But I would never forget that you loved me back.
I may not message you often;
You might think that I must have forgotten you too.
Just as you did.
But trust me, I still remember the first day we met,
Our first fight, our first smile.
You were my first love.

I know I wasn't yours to become;
So, I left without notice.
You may wonder why I never confessed;
Or why I never gave you the signs;
But the truth is, you never found those signs.
As you were busy trying to become hers.
And so, I left without saying a word to you.
And all that is left to say
Is you are worthy of all the blessings,
Wherever you are, be happy.
Don't let that warm smile fade away.
