Fly On; I Will Wait For You Poem by Nate Ritchie

Fly On; I Will Wait For You

Fleeting dreams… Is that all they were?
Basking in warm summer meadows with her.
Our happy days spent together,
Those good times lost; Gone forever.

You have me left me alone
To seek what the light has shone.
Gone, to a place I cannot follow.
You flew away, like an angelic swallow.

I know it has to be this way,
Destiny carrying you away,
Searching for greatness in life,
While I remain in strife.

I know you cannot come back,
But patience and hope, I do not lack.
So, I wait;
From morning until late.

Sometimes, I wait in the woods,
Where we once enjoyed baked goods.
Sometimes, I wait in the park,
Where we would stay until dark.

These days, I cannot go wherever I like,
Not on my worn, rusty bike.
I stopped caring for it and myself,
Like those old knick-knacks on the shelf.

I do still visit that happy place
Where I first saw your face,
Beneath the willow tree,
On that bench grown mossy

It is cold this time of year.
Are you someplace warm, my dear?
Just in case you might show,
I will remain in the freezing rain and snow.

I would rather freeze than leave,
On this lonely Christmas Eve.
To you, I am as close as I can get.
That radiant smile, I do not want to forget.

I do not know why
I cannot say goodbye.
Though it may be absurdity,
I will wait an eternity.

I will see you once more,
Here, or at Heaven's Door.
