Footprints On The Heart3 Poem by Ashley Best

Footprints On The Heart3

I see you are so torn between who you were yesterday
and who you have come to be today.
I just can't be in the middle,
I just can't stay.
I know this may not make sense to you,
but this is something for myself I have to do.
The way things were, they aren't anymore,
and I just can't keep fooling myself.
My eyes are opened,
it's time for me to clean the shelf.
I can't stand still waiting for the dream that doesn't come true,
All I can say is 'I'll Be Seeing You.'
Through the looking glass window,
the rain drops start to fall away.
I hold onto the promise of the illuminating day.
Yea, I'm swimming with the currents now,
letting go of the anchor I was holding onto.
It's time to step out of the quicksand, the only place I knew.

Footprints on my heart, imprinted in the sand.
Oh, don't hold back as the waves splash into my hands.

The yesterdays slip back in when I turn away and close my eyes.
Shattered glass rubs against the bruises on the heart's goodbyes.

Stop that now baby, you've come too close.
You know what's next, I'm absorbing what doesn't belong within me.
Places I trespassed, walls that don't have my name enscripted upon.

I'm not welcome, I must turn around, don't be ashamed to see.
Oh don't hide your tears now, it's only little old me.
