For Janet Poem by Mary Champion

For Janet

Another year without you, dear old friend
for you are gone and nothing fills the void.
How precious were the times we used to spend
together. Oh what laughter we enjoyed.
A friendship that we nurtured forty years;
enriched by our shared memories it grew.
confiding in each other hopes and fears
and things unspoken, that we simply knew.
Although there were some times we disagreed,
my Guardian clashing with your Daily Mail,
the steadfast bonds of friendship guaranteed,
despite it all, affection would prevail.
I miss you, dear old friend; I always will
but all you meant to me sustains me still.
