**for Poppy, Edward** Poem by Samm Mulkins

**for Poppy, Edward**

In a world where kindness shone so bright,
Lived my dear Poppy, a gentle light.
His laughter echoed, warm and clear,
A melody of joy that I hold dear.

He loved to recite Sam McGee's tale,
With humor and charm, he'd never fail.
And oh, the song he'd sing with cheer,
About fishermen gathering year after year.

At Marshall's Bay, his heart found home,
Where memories danced and laughter roamed.
With funny names for everyone,
His spirit sparkled like the sun.

As the oldest of eight, I cherished our days,
In his wise embrace, I learned so many ways.
But life turned cruel, a sudden twist,
When he left us, a moment I can't resist.

At just twenty, my world turned gray,
The loss of Poppy, a heavy price to pay.
Yet in my heart, his love remains,
A guiding light through all my pains.

I miss him deeply, every single day,
Hoping I make him proud in every way.
For the kindness he shared, the joy he spread,
Will forever live on in the words he said.

So here's to Poppy, my gentle guide,
In every tear and every smile, he'll abide.
With love everlasting, I carry him near,
In my heart, my beloved Poppy is always here.
