Forbidden Knowledge Poem by Mary Champion

Forbidden Knowledge

There are times
when troubles swell
until they swallow the whole world.
Then I am overwhelmed,
flooded with a desperate desire
to drink in the darkness,
to switch off the pain,
to relish oblivion.
When, by definition,
I will ever be denied
the sweet ecstasy of that
forbidden knowledge.
