Forgotten Footfalls Poem by Arnie Hicks

Forgotten Footfalls

in the unsolicited sensitivity of self-absorption,
she calmly waits the coming storm,
calculating the moments remaining her solitude
on the path from dead zone to killing floor.

fatal darkness herAlded thus in ominous proem -
grotesque mockery of that what once brought comfort -
rejoined in the defiance of sublime acceptance,
her courage unshaken in the face of final judgement,
she yields not still to surrender's sinister temptation,
pausing but briefly to mourn
just how tart and tragic bleeds the wine of inequity,
where sacrifice serves only abomination
and the truth of a moment betrays naught
but forgotten footfalls in the relentless infinity
of ubiquitous twilight.
