Four Hundred And Ninety Eight reasons To Remember. Poem by Adrian Wait

Four Hundred And Ninety Eight reasons To Remember.

Four Hundred and Ninety Eight
Reasons to Remember.

Names upon the Wall
Forgotten Now
Remembrance for sale
Indifference barely hidden
Behind lipservice
Profit before People
Masked with words
Feigned Assurances
Will fade as the sun
Goes down forgotten
Sacrifices bypassed
By profits gained.

Yet, Nameless people do recall
We stand upon the shore
Gazing to yesterdays horizon
For a moment, a brief moment
Reminded of the true cost
Four Hundred and Ninety Eight
Sacrificed tomorrows,
Fenton's Tommy Atkins
Dreams lost among the years
Gave us the gift of today
Memories last longer than tears
We Will Remember Them.

Dedicated to the Fenton 498.
