Fragments Poem by Michael Oluwasegun Adesiji

Fragments

I would have love to see him
But, my guest wouldn't let me
Please, take a message to Melvin
And tell him all I say
Tell him you gave your all
Tell him I fell at war
With your will to get me saved.

Tell him all you saw;
The withering tree and its shooting stem
Of a beautiful leaf
Tell him of your arms
And how it couldn't cease
The mighty ones of a stormy wind
From the cruel lungs of death.

Tell him of an older soldier
Who fell at war
Where a young one cries
Of victory amidst luck and sorrow
Help him learn the lyrics
Of a lullaby, and not
The touchy ones of a dirge.

Tell this to Melvin
And not the truth should you spare.
Tell him of this flowing rivers of tears
And when he breaks so bad
Have a path on his back
And your shoulder by his
Tell him you tried your best
But death heard my vows to him so clear
Till death do us part; I said.
Till forever; I mean to say.
