Free Me Poem by Minnie Gehrig

Free Me

I want to fall
even to my death
into your embraces,
give in to the idea of
us....................

even as i feel myself crawl catlike
and content towards you,
i know it for the lie it is,

and when we lay down in my starry room,
to make love,
i feel the phoenix in me,
she is biting through this lie,
to be free,
to ignite you in the flames of my love,
which truly belongs to no-one-

submissiveness is merely game,
i cannot be tamed,
i am a wild thing,
belonging in the tropics,
the willow trees,
the clouds,
or merely silhouetted across the sun,
wings spread,
and beautiful
