Friend Poem by Sierra Staten

Friend

Oh, friend.
Meeting you again brings back memories of more soothing times,
A better place we were, years ago.
Without much conflict between us.
Things couldn't have changed any faster.
When together we once were ruled as normal, acceptable to some standards
The sun rose again and that was no longer the case
People still now see us as different,
Which is not acceptable where we are, friend.
We were together too long, suspicions arise from those things.
The only people who completely and honestly understand are those who've experienced what we have-
Those other few souls who watch you tear us apart,
who watch the red river of life flow down, down, onto what once was a white flower, but now stained with streaks of pink and red.
Stained with the vain attempt to rid our bodies of the agony we've suffered.
Stained with the knowledge that despite what you do to us;
We still call you friend.
