Some friends you will simply outgrow,
even though
at the time, you'd have felt quite bereft
if they'd left.
Some friends become burdens to bear
as they share
all the troubles that living has brought -
spare no thought
that you might have problems yourself;
that your health
might not be the best it could be.
They can't see
that others as well have their woes
as it goes.
New friends bring new realms to explore.
They'll be sure
to spice up your life for a while.
Make you smile.
Now and then fates are kind
and you'll find
a friendship that grows and endures.
It matures
into something more precious than gold,
you can hold
in your heart for the rest of your life.
You'll derive
great pleasure from sharing your dreams,
tears and schemes,
‘til you hardly need utter a word
to be heard.
Such friendships can never be rushed
building trust.
For you cannot make old friends, you know -
they just grow.
