Frozen Poem by Xolani Mario Majola

Frozen

I have pondered countless times
The many ways to tell you this,
But the pain and fear of unrequited love
Left me frozen in place.
Tell me I am not too late.
Tell me we are not just skating on thin ice.
Time feels frozen.
Pinch me.
If I count my fingers, will I see ten or eleven?
Do I need to 'chill' and think of a door to dream a better dream?
Time has frozen.
Tell me I am not too late, tell me.
Tell me we can still thaw this out,
That dreams within dreams are unnecessary,
Because we are living a dream.
Our dream.
You and me,
Forever.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem captures the emotional turmoil of love that feels fragile and uncertain. The speaker is trapped in hesitation, fearing that their feelings might not be reciprocated, leaving them metaphorically 'frozen.' Time stands still as they long for reassurance that it's not too late to mend or fulfill their love story. The imagery of ice and freezing represents emotional paralysis, while phrases like 'skating on thin ice' and 'thaw this out' suggest the delicate, risky nature of their emotions. The dream references blur the line between hope and reality, showing a desperate wish for love to be real and lasting. Overall, FROZEN conveys deep longing, fear of rejection, and a yearning for love to be reciprocated—an emotional plea for connection before it slips away.
