Future Perfect Poem by Mary Champion

Future Perfect

Decades on,
when we meet again,
we will be older,
wiser, but more youthful;
more our true selves,
freed from falsehood and error.
By the fountains,
in the garden,
I will take your hand
and draw you towards me;
closer and closer
until we merge -
one heart,
two minds in perfect harmony.
Two bodies
perfectly attuned,
where no barriers
impede the exchange of sensation.
What you feel, I feel.
What I feel
you experience as your own.
What I want, you need.
What you need is my only desire.

By the fountains of life
in the garden called Eden -
an Eden we had only ever known
in dreams and fairy-tales-
an Eden built by our own hands,
when we finally understood
what were born for.
By the fountains,
in the Garden,
we will come together
and the joy in our heart
will be eternal.
