Gato, Gata, (On Dat Tree) Poem by JohnPeter Creighton

Gato, Gata, (On Dat Tree)

Gato, gato, on that tree,
what chu think
when you cry to me?

You the one who got up there,
why can’t cha git down
widout fallin here?

Chat, mon chat, rest easy, chère,
I’ll getchu down from way up there.

Here I come kit kat
here I come kitty.
When we get back down
we’ll all sit pretty
with a pitter patter
pitter patter
meow meow meow!

City cat, kitty cat,
how you now?
Hop on the back of my old brown cow!

kitty cat, pretty cat,
how do you now?

With a pitter patter skitter scatter
cucucalù,

you dance with me,
& I'll dance witchù.

aye aye ay, mon cher, mon chat,
aye ya yigh! & do you care?

With a pitter patter skitter scatter
cucucalù,

you dance with me,
& I'll dance witchù.

You lookin' at me;
me lookin' at you,
& we'll dance our way to Timbuktou.
