Genesis - The Inside Story Poem by Mary Champion

Genesis - The Inside Story

In Eden, the serpent once led us astray,
now Science has given his secrets away,
for, coiled like a snake, in each cell, they say,
the cause of the trouble is our DNA.

So that's what it means!
It's all in our genes!

Forked tongued double helix,
the price we must pay
to pass on our features and natures some way.
Our virtues and vices, white, black or grey,
are gifts of the serpents of our DNA.

We can try to resist
when urges are hissed.

But serpents have powers that come into play
and lead us to act in a devious way.
Even though nurture has something to say,
the root of most evil is our DNA.

Re-read Genesis -
Genes is what it is.

Poor Eve took the blame at the end of the day,
her double ‘X' rating led Adam astray.
If he had any sense then he would display
The questioning ‘Y' that's in his DNA.
