Get Well Soon, Annie Poem by Justin Gildow

Get Well Soon, Annie

She sleeps peacefully in
her bed
A soft pillow underneath
her head
Blankets have been pulled
up over her body

The hospital is quiet
The footsteps of a nurse
echo down the hallway

As she sleeps
I know I only have a few
minutes with her
And so, I come bearing a
card and flower
Outside is a rain shower
Drenching all the flowers

I'm a diamond in the rough
to her
We're not close
But I know her
And she knows me

Leaving the flower in a glass
of water
Leaving the card on the table
beside her bed
I look at her
She sleeps peacefully
Not sure if she knows I'm here
But I'm pulling for her to
recover

Get well soon, Annie
Hopefully we'll see each other
again soon
Whether by morning, or by
afternoon
Even perhaps the night
I'll be waiting for you
I'll be awaiting our next
encounter

Her face and hair glow in the
warmth of the light in this
room
Sleep well, girl
Get well soon, Annie
