Go Back To Sleep Poem by Anna Garland

Go Back To Sleep

All of a sudden you see
a taxi in the living room
it's pills, you say, it's society
putting me through this misery
And you'll be texting me
let's go to the beach ASAP
in the morning, at 3: 30
and I'll text you, please, honey,

Go back to sleep

You call me up to say
I have one question for you
Tell me, the bird on your wrist
that tattoo,
What does it mean?
‘cause I've been drawing
on my hands, wanting to be free
and I'll tell you, please, honey,

Go back to sleep

it's pills, you say, it's society
putting me through this misery
And you keep texting me
let's go to the beach ASAP
ASAP. ASAP. ASAP.

Please, honey,
Go back to sleep

And you tell me
Don't go back to that guy
he's no good for you
and I know you're right,
You tell me you have seen the light
now you know it all
you've put your knowledge in a bag
and right before this call
You ‘ve informed authorities
soon it will be on the news
For everyone to see
And I beg, please, honey

Go back to sleep

it's pills, you say, it's society
putting me through this misery
And you keep texting me
let's go to the beach ASAP
ASAP. ASAP. ASAP.

Please, honey,
Go back to sleep

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Maybe this is more lyrics than poetry - either way, I wrote it when one of my friends was experiencing some kind of a mental breakdown.
