When God called, Jonah ran
Down to a seaport
To flee the Lord on a ship.
God stirred the waves and Jonah swam
But God rescued Jonah with a fish's gulp,
For God is a God of second chances.
When Jonah realized he was alive,
From a belly prison he called to God.
God heard and the great fish
Released his captive onto the shore,
For God is a God of second chances.
God called again and Jonah ran
Down to Nineveh, three days away.
Jonah called, the people responded.
God heard their cries, the people were spared,
For God is a God of second chances.
Jonah sat and sulked and watched for destruction
God gave him some shade
Then took it away for Jonah's education
Thus ending the story with a question,
For God is a God of second chances.
