God signed His name with zest;
The poet gazed enrapt, possessed!

As mountain summits in a row
Against the sky's expanse did glow;
As Tunga sported all her moods-
A water nymph amidst dense woods-
God signed his name with zest;
The poet gazed enrapt, possessed!

The river sped, the forest mused;
The sky blue-laughter shed.
O'er secluded spot and noiseless hour
The thrill of birds' soft music spread.
The winsome stream in sunshine gleamed;
Its fluid lisp 'mong pebbles streamed;
On either bank the gold sands beamed.

As the poet in the river bathed
His mind in blessedness reposed;
Sweet earth by beauty sweetened now
As nectar to his inward tongue disposed.

And then sudden into view there flashed
Above the landscape on the sky
A flight of herons argentine
In the marvelous design
Of a wordless poem
Rich with rhyme and rhythm.

As if to reassure creation
Of His unceasing presence
(Despite transcendence)
For the weal and joy of earth
And adopting the device unique
Of the winging classes in swing technique,
God signed his name with zest;
The poet gazed enrapt, possessed!

ದೇವರು ರುಜು ಮಾಡಿದನು;
ರಸವಶನಾಗುತ ಕವಿ ಅದ ನೋಡಿದನು!

ಬಿತ್ತರದಾಗಸ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಾಗಿರೆ
ಪರ್ವತದೆತ್ತರ ಸಾಲಾಗೆಸೆದಿರೆ
ಕಿಕ್ಕಿರದಡವಿಗಳಂಚಿನ ನಡುವೆ
ಮೆರೆದಿರೆ ಜಲಸುಂದರಿ ತುಂಗೆ
ದೇವರು ರುಜು ಮಾಡಿದನು;
ರಸವಶನಾಗುತ ಕವಿ ಅದ ನೋಡಿದನು!

ನದಿ ಹರಿದಿತ್ತು; ಬನ ನಿಂತಿತ್ತು;
ಬಾನ್ ನೀಲಿಯ ನಗೆ ಬೀರಿತ್ತು.
ನಿರ್ಜನ ದೇಶದ ನೀರವ ಕಾಲಕೆ
ಖಗರವ ಪುಲಕಂ ತೋರಿತ್ತು.
ಹೂಬಿಸಲಲಿ ಮಿರುಗಿರೆ ನಿರಿವೊನಲು
ಮೊರೆದಿರೆ ಬಂಡೆಗಳಲಿ ನೀರ‍್ತೊದಲು
ರಂಜಿಸೆ ಇಕ್ಕೆಲದಲಿ ಹೊಮ್ಮಳಲು

ಸಿಬ್ಬಲುಗುಡ್ಡೆಯ ಹೊಳೆಯಲಿ ಮೀಯುತ
ಕವಿಮನ ನಾಕದಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿತ್ತು;
ಮಧು ಸೌಂದರ್ಯದ ಮಧುರ ಜಗತ್ತು
ಹೃದಯ ಜಿಹ್ವೆಗೆ ಜೇನಾಗಿತ್ತು!

ದೃಶ್ಯದಿಗಂತದಿನೊಮ್ಮೆಯೆ ಹೊಮ್ಮಿ
ಗಿರಿವನ ಪಟದಾಕಾಶದಲಿ
ತೇಲುತ ಬರಲ್ಕೆ ಬಲಾಕಪಂಕ್ತಿ
ಲೇಖನ ರೇಖಾವಿನ್ಯಾಸದಲಿ,
ಅವಾಙ್ಮಯ ಛಂದಃಪ್ರಾಸದಲಿ,

ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ರಚನೆಯ ಕುಶಲಕೆ ಚಂದಕೆ
ಜಗದಚ್ಚರಿಯಂದದ ಒಪ್ಪಂದಕೆ
ಚಿರಚೇತನ ತಾನಿಹೆನೆಂಬಂದದಿ
ಬೆಳ್ಳಕ್ಕಿಯ ಹಂತಿಯ ಆ ನೆವದಿ
ದೇವರು ರುಜು ಮಾಡಿದನು:
