Going Back To School As A Senior Poem by Asher Proschansky

Going Back To School As A Senior

Frazier versus Ali first round
Frazier getting pounded, not a quick starter
If he can just last the first few rounds
The history book opens
too many ancient civilizations to remember
if I can just get past the first exam
Frazier miraculously still on his feet
A shadow of his left hook begins to form
Ancient hominids, paleolithic villages
Frazier in his crouch, beginning to apply pressure
Head pressed against his man's chest
Neolithic villages, agriculture, farming
Can I remember it all?
Frazier willing to take one in order to land
a heavier one
Can he knock his man to his deletions
Raising my hand in class, my answer draws chuckles
Frazier at least even with Ali now,
Ali is visibly slowing down
First exam is handed out, but did not bring a scantron
Frazier's guard is momentarily down
Gets clocked with another quick jab
In the corner of the exam room,
Another student gives me an extra scantron.
Frazier fires a left hook, a haymaker
Frazier back to his corner, cut man fixing his eye
I can't answer the first question
And not the second nor the third
Frazier reaches back and hits Ali with a strong left hook
Driving Ali into the ropes
I take on question four like Sargon
attacking ancient Mesopotamia
But that is only a 25% hit rate
Frazier misses another left hook
I miss question 5
The exam is piling up the points against me
Frazier lands a major left hook
Knocking Ali to the canvas
Maybe I can score a passing grade
With a major hook on the long essay question!
